Let’s celebrate summer with a shortlist of cultural events happening in Berlin this summer. Open Air cinema, classic concerts, Gay Parade, fashion shows and Museum nights, there’s something for everyone! So pick you favourite of our ‘best summer events in Berlin’ list and plan your trip. Open Air Cinema – all summer

What’s more fun than enjoying a blockbuster or Art House flick under the stars? Open Air Cinemas (‘Freiluftkinos’ in German) can be found in parks, warehouses and gardens across Berlin this summer. Grab some popcorn, a few beers and a bike at Amstel House and enjoy! These Frieluftkinos are most popular:

Kreuzberg – best undubbed international movies
Hasenheide – a fantastic selection of art house movies
Potsdamer Platz – various movies with the scenery of Berlin’s skyline as a backdrop
Friedrichshain – from blockbuster to cult films, located in Volkspark Friedrichshain

Long Night of Sciences – 15 June

This exciting event opens up a variety of scientific labs to the public. Learn about the latest scientific research, do your own experiments and go to lectures on interesting topics.

Berlin Fashion Week – 2-6 July

Come see your favourite designers, celebrities, fashion editors and bloggers during Berlin Fashion Week. Because everybody in the Fashion Industry will be in Berlin this week. A true fashionista walhalla, from streetwear to the high street! Berlin focuses on green fashion this year, showing what’s hot and new in eco fashion and sustainable design.

Open Air Classic – 5-9 July

Not your typical music festivals and no DJs on the main stage. But Berlin’s most picturesque square, the Gendarmenmarkt, will turn into an Open Air concert hall for the occasion. Classic tunes and a colourful light show make it a well worth visit if you’re in town!

Gay Parade – 27 July

Everyone celebrating equality, join us for the biggest, most colourful and exuberant celebration of the year, our own Berlin gay pride called Christopher Street Day! After the parade, after parties will take place in clubs across Berlin.

Location: Kurfürstendamm to Brandenburg Gate (Mitte)

Young Euro Classic – 19 July – 6 August

Celebrating the 20th birthday of Ludwig von Beethoven, the best youth orchestras from all over the world will play Beethoven’s symphonies and piano concertos at the Konzerthaus this summer.

Location: Konzerthaus, Gendarmenmarkt (Mitte) 

Dance in August – 9-31 August

One of the most well-known contemporary dance festivals in the world. With innovative choreographies and dance formats presented (often for the first time) in Berlin. The main performances are held at the Hebbel am Ufer theater but there are dance events in venues all over the city.

Night at the Museum – 31 August

Step away from the rooftops and enjoy your cocktails at a much more imaginary place this last day of August! During Museum Night, 80 museums open their doors until midnight. So it’s your chance to visit multiple museums in one night. There will also be all kinds of open air events on 31 August. Visit the Berlin Museum Night website for up to date information.
