An exhibition for the fans of science fiction movies! The Deutsche Kinemathek – Museum for Film and Television in Berlin presents THINGS TO COME – Science · Fiction · Film”. Inspired by the classic eponymous film it raises important questions about the future that awaits us. “What is to come”?

Divided into floors this mind-bending display addresses three key matters in the genre: 1- outer space and the unlimited frontiers; 2- the society of the future and the social interactions under the conditions of technological progress and sociopolitical developments; 3- the other, the existential questions raised ultimately through the encounter with extraterrestrials.

Big landmarks of the history of science fiction cinema – such as 2001: A SPACE ODYSSE and STAR WARS – are definitely an important part of the exhibition. But film productions from the last ten years, especially those with a more insightful look on social matters of our own time, play a particular role. Some of them are: Robot” (USA|D, 2004, Alex Proyas), “Children of Men” (USA|GB, 2006, Alfonso Cuarón), “The Island” (USA, 2005, Michael Bay) and “Oblivion” (USA, 2013, Joseph Kosinski).
