A second must do city trip in our list of ‘Europe city trip hot spots’ guides is a Barcelona city trip. The perfect mix of beach, city, cocktails in the sun, cute shops and culture, all in one trip. What’s not to love?
WHY?
1. Great (!!) affordable (!!) food! Ok, and lovely sangria too.
2. Beautiful city meets Beach vibe
3. People and streets full of character
Where to STAY
We recommend staying at El Born during your Barcelona city trip. It’s walking distance to cute shops, the city, the beach. And big plus; the best nights are on your doorstep; great tapas, cute restaurants, small designer shops and plenty of bars for that last cocktail!
Going for a design / Ace hotel / wanna kinda spoil myself vibe? Stay at Casa Bonay! Ideal for a romantic get away in Barcelona or for a family visit when your parents or in-laws are picking up the bill 😉
A more affordable option, but still very picturesque is Born Barcelona Hostel.
Where to EAT & DRINK
Start your wander through the city with a cup of coffee from Nomad!
Cooking or picking up some snacks for a day at the beach? Buy some fruit, bread and veggies at the Boqueria market. A little touristy, but a true food extravaganza for your Barcelona city trip!
Now here’s a true hidden gem; ‘Pinhan’ (means secret in Turkish) in Turo Park. They serve the most delicious food and the scenery (green park) is breathtaking. Ssshhhh….
La Champañería is the most famous and must visit tapas bar. Super cheap cavas (75 cts a glass cheap…) and delicious tapas. It’s often very crowded so don’t be in a hurry.
The Guingueta Barceloneta is a great bar on the beach with easy snacks, healthy juices and fresh cocktails.
A little more upscale but if you’re craving paella or great organic fresh fish with a seaview, book a table at Barraca. Less touristy than the restaurants right on the beach, although these have an amazing menu and setting as well.
What to DO & SEE
There’s nothing more fun, fast and flexible than exploring a city by bike. From the fun guys at Vespa Soul Barcelona you can rent both bikes and Vespas for your Barcelona city trip. If you have an extra morning/afternoon we highly recommend you rent a Vespa and explore the beautiful countryside around Barcelona!
Simply wander the streets of the best neighbourhoods of Barcelona. Our favourites are El Born (tapas, designer shops, Picasso museum, ….), Barceloneta (relaxed beach vibe) and Gracia (more arty, culture).
Admire genius Gaudí’s works! Parque Güell, Palacio Güell and La Sagrada Familia are top of our list!
