Frankfurter Tor an architectural wonder

frankfurtertorThe Karl-Marx-Allee, where the U-Bahn Frankfurter Tor in Friedrichain is, is a true architecture show that is going to make you feel in the USSR. Constructed in early years of the former GDR, it was named at that time Stalinallee and was part of East Germany’s reconstruction program pos WWII. Headed by Hermann Henselmann the monumental project had the participation of many prominent eastern architectures and it is an epochal example of the Stalinist architecture style. It was constructed to host luxurious apartments for state workers and to serve as a boulevards with shops, cafés, restaurants – such as the incredibly designed Café Moskau – and Cinemas, like the legendary and still in operation Kino International, celebrating just now its 50th anniversary.
