Berlin is a popular city trip destination thanks to its hipper than hip yet affordable urban image, 24/7 club scene, cultural and creative vibe. But Berlin is also the perfect destination for a family getaway. To make it easy for you and the clan we created a list to experience the best possible family holiday in Berlin.
GO GREEN
Take a stroll in one of Berlin’s lush parks, city forests or botanical gardens of Europe’s greenest city.
MUSEUMS
Do culture but make it efficient. Go to Museuminsel (Museum Island). You’ll have five excellent Museums only a stone’s throw away from each other. Promise the kids a visit to Legoland (Potsdamerstrasse 4) afterwards where they can see a miniature version of Berlin built out of 55 million LEGO® bricks.
BERLIN WALL & CHECKPOINT CHARLIE
Rent a bike and ride along the Berlin Wall. There are guided tours but you can also just rent bikes with child seats and explore by yourself. If your kids are a little older, take them to Checkpoint Charlie and give them an idea of what life was like during the Cold War. Teenagers might like to know that around the corner, in Hansa Music Studios, pop icons like David Bowie and Iggy Pop recorded their records.
KINDERCAFES
Hot dads and hip moms are pushing babies in strollers, running after toddlers on scooters and transporting all other kids on cool bikes all around town. Trendy kids café’s (‘Kindercafes’) – smart designed café with perfect coffees and light snacks meets kids playground where tantrums are allowed – are popping up everywhere.
ICE CREAM
If your kids are not yet convinced, there’s ice cream. Berlin has a thing for ice creams. And they are super cheap! So, after a long day of sightseeing, treat them to a scoop (or two). Always works. We highly recommend a visit to Hokey Pokey on Stargarder Strasse 73. It nearly had to close because the neighbours complained about the long lines. Nuff said.
Our spacious Family Room Berlin with private bathroom offers comfort and privacy at affordable prices (from 49 euros). Kids up to the age of 3 stay for free and kids under 12 years old pay half. We have a nice playground just around the corner and a great range of services. Everything needed for a fun but low cost family holiday in Berlin.
