Berlin Concerts: Live Music at the Amstel House

concerts berlin live musicThis summer season we started a special action. Talented musicians came in contact with us willing to share their sound and joy with our guests and staff. Spontaneously we began the Berlin Concerts: Live Music at Amstel House. The first session took place in July with the unplugged gig of Alexander Peppler and Friends. In a Friday summer afternoon their music rocked our All-You-Can-Eat Burger BBQ, bringing together the whole hostel at the Amstel backyard.

This Friday is time to get to know Bear, a polyrhythmic duet based in the U.K. Formed by multi-instrumentalist Gordon Bagard from Lille (France) and vocalist and percussionist Faye Smith from Birmingham (UK) Bear was born two years ago when its members met for the first time while jamming around Toulouse. A match like bread and butter they gather to try out what the fuse could bring to the English music scene.

With an array of musical influences from Lauryn Hill, Etta James, lots of old soul and new electronic sounds, such as massive attack and Bonobo, their music is a mix of soulful vocals, melodic guitar and an urban feeling added by an interesting use of beat box and percussion. They are also part of a larger musical community in Birmingham and decided to get into some traveling musical adventures this summer, going trough Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels and France. The due welcomes to the Amstel session two other musicians: percussionist Danny Law and vocal and guitarist Amy Smith. We haven’t met them yet, but what we’ve heard is that they can’t wait to come and make some noise. We won’t miss it!
