In our new post on tips “around the world” (see also Bali, Ibiza and Kuala Lumpur) we got inspired by the unusual heat of this year’s Europe summer and traveled all the way to the tropics of another continent, where temperatures above 30°C are a daily matter all year long. We are talking about Boipeba, a small beautiful island in the state of Bahia, in northeastern Brazil. To get to this isolated land an adventurous spirit is necessary. From the state’s capital – the big Salvador de Bahia – until the final destination travelers have to take a ferry, a 4×4 off road and finally a small motor boat.
The journey is worth it. Once you set the foot on the island you will know you arrived in paradise. Coconut trees to lose sight, emerald green sea and some small fishermen’s houses characterize this place where the passage of cars is prohibited and the peace is guaranteed.
Get prepared; the days here can be hard. Horse riding at the beach, boat trips around the island, snorkeling, stand up and kayaking through the mangroves – local type of vegetation – are part of the program.
At the end of the day the call is to recharge the energy with a typical dish: moqueca, made in many ways with different fishes and seafood with coconut milk, tapioca flour, coriander and palm oil – locally know as Dedê. An afternoon nap at the hammock is undeniable.
The village is small and calm, but at night a “samba” is improvised in bars by the beach, where really cold beer and fresh “caipirinhas” are served for a fair price. For all this reasons we have to call it Boipeba: a brazilian paradise.
