Coming to Berlin before the Holidays? Why not use the time to get some Christmas shopping too? The German capital offers different kinds of shopping experiences, creative stores and an unique holidays spirit. The Amstel House has prepared a list of the best places to go Christmas shopping in Berlin.
Our favorite and most recommended is the fun Holly Shit Shopping. It. gathers hundreds of young designers and their amazing products in one single huge place. A truth and varied Pop-Up Design Emporium! Among the offers you can find clothes, jewelry, furniture and products related to design, art, photography and literature.
Very typical German! To celebrate the holidays they build cozy, beautiful and illuminated Christmas Markets. There you can buy special fest decorations, yummy seasonal sweets, like the Lebkuchen (Gingerbread), and get a taste of the best glühwein – a classic beverage of this time of the year made of wine to warm our bodies and hearts. Our top recommendations are: the astonishing WeinachtsZauber at the Gendarmenmarkt, the romantic Charlottenburg Palace Christmas Market and the traditional Spandauer Weihnachtsmarkt.
Berlin also carries a long tradition of department stores. It hosts Germany’s most famous one, the glamorous KaDeWe. Founded in 1907 it gathers exotic, luxurious, designed products from fashion to furniture, besides a last heaven floor with the best food in the world. Other department stores in the capital also worth a look are Galeria Kaufhof, Peek and Cloppenburg and Galeries Lafayette.
Berlin is famous for its second hand culture. If your money is a bit short this year go take a look at some of its open air vintage markets. With a good eye and some patience you can find nice jewelry, fashionable clothes and cute house products. Our suggestion are: Mauerpark if what you need is variety, Arkonaplatz if you have a fetish for design and Antik- und Buchmarkt at the Bodemuseum if you appreciates antiques.
