When a few rad surf dudes in California screwed wheels onto their surf boards back in the 1940s, they must have known they were onto something. Skateboarding took off and is still going strong. Berlin and its raw character are perfect for the skateboard scene to flourish and we welcome many skate dudes and dudettes at the Amstel House Hostel Berlin each year. So we thought it’s about time to share the best skateparks in Berlin.
Nike SB Shelter (Friedrichshain)
A fun and challenging skate paradise for everyone. It’s inside so even if it’s winter Berlin, you can ride those 800 m2 of ledges, rails, ramps and banks. The shelter includes an open-air cinema, green garden and a café. All sorts of events are happening here throughout the year so check their website for when you’re in town.
Heidelberger Platz (Charlottenburg)
15 minutes by subway from Amstel House, you find the skatepark Heidelberger Platz, at the S-Bahn station Heidelberger Platz. It is covered so even if the weather is wet you can still enjoy its brand new banks, vulcano’s, curbs and rails.
Skatepark Böcklerpark (Kreuzberg)
Centrally located and with a bit more shade than other popular skateparks, Böcklerpark offers ramps, blocks and enough space for beginners and advanced skaters.
Pappelplatz (Mitte)
Pappelplatz is a small but popular street park in the middle of Berlin. A lot of street style skate events take place here as well.
Skatepark Vogelfreiheit (Tempelhofer Feld)
Skatepark Vogelfreiheit is a favourite spot in Tempelhofer Feld, the former airport. It’s full of street obstacles like stairs, rails, curbs, ramps and ledges for skating and BMX.
