Everybody loves Berlin, but celebrities have taken a special interest in Europe’s coolest city. A couple have moved to Berlin, some swing by for the Berlin International Film Festival and some come for Berlin’s architecture, culture, cuisine or its newly acquired tech start-up hub status. So where to spot celebrities in Berlin? Where are you most likely to bump into Berlin lovers like Brad Pitt, George Clooney and Scarlett Johannson?
Big Hollywood movie premieres are often held at The Berlinale Palace (Potsdamer Platz). Smaller festival releases take place at Kino International (East Berlin) and the Zoo Palast (West Berlin). Celebrities will walk red carpets at all these Berlin theaters. !! Tip: visit the nearest hip restaurant or café when the movie is actually playing. Big stars will have seen the movie a zillion times already. They tend to hide out at a local hot spot during its screening.
Favourite restaurants of the stars are Bandol (French cuisine), where Brad Pitt likes to enjoy a nice meal. And Bocca di Bacco (Italian), a favourite of Demi Moore and Tom Hanks when they are in town. Hugh Grant, Scarlett Johansson, Liam Neeson and many others prefer Grill Royal with a view over the river Spree. Whenever Naomi Campbell is in town, she likes to have dinner at Michelin star restaurant Pauly Saal.
Eat and party with the likes of Leonardo Dicaprio and other stars at Bar Tausend (Mitte). Especially jampacked with celebrities in Berlin during the Berlin International Film Festival so make sure you make your reservations early!
Dance the night away at PURO Sky Lounge with celebrities like Beyoncé. A regular crowd of German actors and models also like to visit PURO. It’s one of the hippest clubs in town with a killer view.
While all the cool people stay at Berlin’s friendliest hostel, most celebrities tend to stay at Hotel Adlon (Pariser Platz). Have breakfast there or have a few drinks at the bar. You might run into the likes of Angelina Jolie or Edward Norton who stay there regularly.
