10 best tips to SAVE MONEY ON ACCOMMODATION

ways to save money on accommodation

When travelling on a budget, one of your biggest fixed expenses is your accommodation. So we gathered all our best tips for you to save money on accommodation. While staying at a happy place off course. No point in being cheap and miss all the fun 😉

1. Stay longer
First of all, you can often save money when you stay a bit longer. Many hostels have special deals for that.  Check out our facebook and be the first to know about Amstel House Hostel Berlin specials!

2. Pick days wisely
Fridays and Saturday nights are most popular, followed by work week days, making a Sunday night the cheapest night to stay. If you can, try to avoid the weekends and include a Sunday in your travels to save money on accommodation.  Sometimes Friday and Saturday nights are double or even triple the prices so well worth considering.

3. Location
There’s no point in staying at a cheap place that is miles away from all the hot spots you want to visit or not well connected by public transport. It will have you spend a fortune on transport. Did you know Amstel House Hostel Berlin Hostel Berlin is centrally located; just a few stops from Berlin Central Station ‘Hauptbahnhof’ and around the corner from the U-bahn that takes you right into all Berlin’s coolest neighbourhoods?

4. Avoid peak season
Try to book your trip in low or middle season if you can. It saves heaps on accommodation and also saves you time (avoiding long lines in touristy hot spots) and money when sightseeing. For most European cities like Berlin, the high season is June/July/August so try to plan around it and save!

5. The more the merrier!
The more people in your travel band, the better your chances of cheaper accommodation. It also saves you money for meals and you often get special entrée fees for museums and galleries when you’re with 4 people or more. Check out the Amstel group specials, we have special travel deals for couples, families, school groups and more.

6. Kitchen check
Check whether your accommodation of choice has a communal kitchen. In most locations, it saves you a lot of money when you cook your own dinner. Especially when you’re travelling with more people. Amstel House Hostel Berlin just renovated a beautiful fully-equipped kitchen for chefs of all kinds. We even created some printable cook books for travellers, if you’re looking for inspiration.

7. Check food and drinks options
Does your hostel offer affordable breakfast, run a bar with affordable drinks and are there enough affordable restaurants and cafes within walking distance? At Amstel House Hostel Berlin, we offer daily happy hour from 6-8pm at the Amstel Bar and an all you can eat breakfast for 5.50 euro.  In the vicinity of the Amstel House Hostel Berlin you find great take away and dining options, like the very best, real Italian pizza in Berlin just around the corner from 2 euro!

8. Free services
Check whether your hostel offers free services like free wifi, free computer usage, free luggage storage and free bed linen. Amstel House Hostel Berlin offers free crisp and clean bed linen, free luggage storage and free wifi in all rooms and communal areas. Download all you need for the day and off you go. It saves you lots (and lots) of money you would otherwise have to spend streaming.

9. Erase cookies / history
Most booking sites install cookies on your computer, offering higher prices to return visitors (because you’re interested!). Erase your history, try again and you often get a better offer to help you save on accommodation.

10. Book directly
Book directly on the website of your preferred accommodation and you will most likely get the best price. Like many other hostels, Amstel House Hostel Berlin offers the ‘best price guarantee’, meaning that when you book directly via our website, you always get the best deal.
